The Big Bardaid Box

After years of our Bardaid Initiative putting books into school libraries, we are finally getting our own (in conjunction with the wonderful charity, ‘Animal Antiks’.

As of 8th November 2017, we will acquire an ex-telephone box in the rather lovely village of Long Marston, near Tring. HERTS.

As you can see, it’s a sad old thing and will need lots of love before we can start filling it with books and get our very own community library under way, but by our grand opening is on 3rd December and we shall have some very different photos to show.

See our Bardaid page on the Rrrants site for details of all the schools we have donated books to thus far. BARDAID on RRRANTS

Under the banner of The Bardaid Initiative, we have promoted nearly three hundred free poetry and short story events in London, Herts and Bucks; using the money we raised from whip-rounds to buy books from performing writers that we have then donated to school libraries. In 2011 we even started a library in a broom cupboard at Roman Fields School in Boxmoor, Herts, as they hadn’t previously had a library at all!
In the same year, we published our first poetry anthology through money raised and sent a thousand copies of ‘The Big BARDAID book’ to selected schools all around the country.
On the 3rd of December, we are opening our first library in this old telephone box that we will be naming, ‘The Big Bardaid Box’. We are very fortunate to have the lovely Carole Matthews  ( to cut the ribbon on our new venture and we will have some fantastic poets and writers with us on the day, performing  their latest works and signing their books. As well as this, Animal Antiks, Paul’s favourite charity, will be bringing some of their gorgeous rescued animals and some of the young people they help.
Please come and join us, there will definitely be cake. Event details below:
